Ari Axelrod: Performer, Teacher, and Cabaret Artist

Episode Summary

We are so excited to share Ari Axelrod’s episode with you! In this episode, we chat with Ari about what’s inspiring him, his amazing dog Leo, and of course Elyssa and Lauren jumped on the dog love train :). We also discuss how Judaism influences his artistry, overcoming obstacles to his Jewish identity in college, and learning to embrace “being a Jew” vs “being Jewish.” We also got into some ‘real talk” about the dangers of oversharing on social media about current events such as the Israeli/Palestinian conflict without knowing all the history and the facts. Ari also spoke openly and generously about his recent brain surgery and how that experience led to his discovery of cabaret, or in his words, “the art of being yourself on purpose.” I won’t give too much away, but he also shares a story that shows how cabaret can literally save lives, and made both of us tear up. Ari is committed to living his life boldly and “embracing the joy instead of the oy,” and it’s impossible not to smile hearing his beautiful voice and passion in this conversation. Happy listening!
