Talking Diverse and Inclusive Children's Books with Kyanne Stennett of Big Queen Little Queen Publishing

Episode Summary

We are so grateful to Kyanne for sharing her inspiring story with us. When her chronic migraines made it no longer sustainable for her to continue in her career as a prosthetic and orthotic technician, she pivoted. Kyanne created Big Queen Little Queen Publishing, an independent children’s book publisher that publishes diverse and inclusive books that feature characters from unrepresented communities. BQLQ’s books have themes of P&O, self-love, diversity, disability, and inclusion. In this episode, we speak about Kyanne’s journey and how she manages it all herself, how representation in children’s literature is imperative, her most recent book Zara Ballerina about an amputee who wants to be a ballerina, and our favorite children’s books growing up. Kyanne is doing such important work, and we know you will be moved by our conversation with her. Enjoy!
